Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan: Only Test Match Underway in Colombo

Day 1 Highlights

Openers Set Solid Platform for Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka's opening pair of Dimuth Karunaratne and Nishan Madushka provided a solid foundation for their team in the ongoing Test against Afghanistan in Colombo. The duo put on a century stand to guide Sri Lanka to a strong position on the opening day of the match.

Karunaratne, the Sri Lankan captain, led the way with a composed 75 runs off 145 deliveries. Madushka, on the other hand, contributed with a gritty 62 off 126 balls. Their partnership allowed Sri Lanka to reach 170/1 at the close of play on Day 1.

Afghanistan's bowlers struggled to make early inroads into Sri Lanka's batting lineup. Mujeeb Ur Rahman, the team's leading spinner, failed to pick up a wicket in his opening spell. It was Amir Hamza who eventually broke the partnership, dismissing Madushka in the final session of the day.

The match is scheduled to continue over the next four days, with both teams aiming to secure a victory. Afghanistan will be looking to upset the odds and earn a historic Test win away from home, while Sri Lanka will be determined to maintain their dominance in the longer format of the game.
